Question:The shape of your RV-6/7/9 Aviator seat looks different. Has the frame been changed in some way?Answer:Yes, the Aviator seats are supplied with a special frame that replaces the stock seat back. This design allows the frame to be enclosed in the upholstery much like automotive seats. This also makes it possible to incorporate an internal track system for the sliding lumbar mechanism. The lumbar can be adjusted by moving a knob on the back of the seat. Because the upholstery wraps around the frame, a rear pocket can also be built into the covering. Offset hinge locations allow the seat to hinge forward more easily, and there is the option to add headrests if desired. The main structure of the Aviator seats is a square aluminum tube bent into an inverted “U” shape. This tube structure is very efficient. The bare frame (before foam and upholstery are added) is almost identical to the weight of the stock frame, but includes the sliding lumbar mechanism.
